In each case the skin takes various amounts of time to shed, sometimes it is easily removed but at times can take up to 20 minutes or longer to remove. In these photos you can easily see each stage and the work involved! In photo #3 can you see the outline of the toes? Often the skin splits and part of it is left behind, possibly consumed at a later time. Although this process looks...well...gross, it is a necessary function of all creatures, even ourselves! |
